Dine out and help cure cancer

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Blackstone Restaurant in Iowa City, will be hosting proceeds nights, every Monday night during the month of July. A portion of each nights sales will benefit The Iowa Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk.

The Light the Night Walk is an annual fundraising event put on by the LLS, in an effort to raise the funds needed for cancer research and patient programs, while at the same time providing family fun and awareness for blood cancers. The Corridor Walk will take place on Saturday, October 9th at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every ten minutes someone dies from blood cancer. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease & myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Iowa Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society currently assists over 2,000 Iowa patients and their families, through their Financial Aid Program, Support Groups, Co-Pay Assistance Program or ongoing Education Programs.

Approximately 75 cents of every dollar raised, goes to blood cancer research and patient programs. The need is critical, with leukemia being the number one cancer killer of children and young adults under the age of 20 and striking ten times as many adults.

Last year over $85,000 was distributed to patients in Iowa through the LLS Financial Aid program.
