Holiday starts with two separate shootings in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) --- Waterloo Police were called to two separate shootings in the early morning hours of the July 4th holiday.

Police first responded to Covenant Medical Center just after 1 a.m. on report of a gunshot victim.  Officers discovered 19-year-old Trevon Fox of Texas suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.  Fox told officers he had just exited a liquor store in the 500 block of Broadway when he saw a fight across the street in the parking lot of another liquor store. Fox told police that he then heard gunshots and was struck in the leg.  He was taken to Covenant by private vehicle where he was treated for his injury.

Just two hours later, police responded to another shooting call.  Large crowds had been reported outside a motorcycle club in the 1400 block of East 4th Street.  A short time later, police heard several gunshots across the street.

Officers located 44-year-old Darrell Anthony Huggins of Waterloo suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg and back. Huggins was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital by Waterloo ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which were determined to be non-life threatening.

During the investigation into this incident, 33-year-old Toraino Adaryel Love of Waterloo was developed as a suspect. Love was later located and brought to the Waterloo Police Department for questioning.

He was charged with being armed with intent, willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and felon in possession.  Love's bond has been set at $400,000.

Both shootings remain under investigation.  If you have information that can help, call Waterloo Police at 319-294-4349.
