Hands-On learning at Freedom Festival

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) –By launching rockets and playing with marbles, dozens of children got hands-on with a learning exhibit outside the Cedar Rapids science station.

The exhibit was one of the many Freedom Festival events going on this week.

This one was called "Outreach to Space."

Lessons included information about gravity, air pressure, and more.

"Our activities are designed so the kids can actually grab a hold of things and twist, turn, look, and manipulate," Coordinator Bill Dutton said.

The exhibit was funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  The grant is meant to target rural area children.

There's only 13 of these exhibits throughout the United States.

"Outreach to Space" can be found through out Iowa this summer.
