Governors campaigning for 4th of July

CHARLES CITY (KWWL) -- Governor Chet Culver started off his holiday weekend in America's Hometown.

Culver walked along Charles City's 4th of July parade route, along with several of his supporters. He said he enjoys visiting Chucktown and participating in the festivities. But he points out, the most important thing to remember on Independence Day is the men and women who serve our country.

"It's only appropriate to celebrate those freedoms this weekend, but to also remember the price that was paid for the freedom we all enjoy," he said.

The governor is traveling all over Iowa for the 4th, including a stop in Iowa City Saturday night. He'll wrap up the holiday with some fireworks in Des Moines Monday night.

Former Governor Terry Branstad is also making his way to many 4th of July celebrations across the state. The two are campaigning for the gubernatorial spot next fall.
