Johnson County testing sirens Friday

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- If you're near Iowa City or the Oakdale Campus at around Noon on Friday and hear the warning sirens, rest assured, it's only a test.

The Johnson County Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor warning sirens at Noon on Friday to confirm an upgrade to the sirens.

Dave Wilson says they want to make sure the upgraded piece of equipment works as designed before the holiday weekend and next week's projected storms.

He adds that only the sirens owned by the University of Iowa in Iowa City and on the Oakdale Campus should go off.

Residents are reminded that county-wide testing of the outdoor warning system will take place at 10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month instead of 9:00 a.m. on the first Monday.
