Longevity gene identified in centenarians

(KWWL) -- Researchers have studied the genes of centenarians and compared them to the general population.

They used people more than 100-years-old because in most cases they are the models of health.  Many delay disability until their nineties.

The researchers identified genes that were able to predict "exceptional longevity" with 77 percent accuracy.

However, they say lifestyle factors like poor diet and smoking have a negative affect regardless of your genes.
