Waterloo man charged for spray painting graffiti

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Waterloo Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for vandalizing a home and four businesses with graffiti.

Carmelo Gomez, 20, was arrested Wednesday night in the 1100 block of Doreen Avenue after officers found him with blue spray paint on his hands and pants.  After searching Gomez, officers found a can of blue spray paint tucked into his pants and a black paint marker.

During their investigation, officers found a garage at 2709 University Avenue that was vandalized with spray paint.  They say the paint matched the paint they found on Gomez.

Police also believe that Gomez is responsible for spray painting graffiti on the Dairy Queen at 2719 University Avenue, State Farm Insurance at 2741 University Avenue, Jacobsen Staffing at 2709 University Avenue and Miracle Car Wash at 2727 University Avenue.

Police say the items vandalized include two Dumpsters, glass windows and electrical boxes.

Gomez is charged with two counts of Fourth-Degree Criminal Mischief and three counts of Fifth-Degree Criminal Mischief.
