100 homes still needed to host RAGBRAI riders in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) – The Waterloo RAGBRAI Housing Committee is seeking Cedar Valley residents to house RAGBRAI riders overnight the evening of Thursday, July 29th. Residences can be anywhere in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Gilbertville or Washburn.

"We currently have approximately 25 residences hosting 300 riders. The need is for approximately 100 more homes for 1,200 riders," said Lonnie Elmore, Chair of the Waterloo RAGBRAI Housing Committee.

Hosts can make anything from their back yard to their spare bedroom available for riders. On average, the riders will be in groups of 10-12 people and have one support vehicle with them.

"Hosts don't need to cook for them, just offer a yard for a tent or a floor to roll out a sleeping bag, a restroom, and a shower," said Elmore.

Riders will be registered through RAGBRAI and will have official wrist band numbers assigned to them; they are officially covered under the RAGBRAI umbrella insurance policy.

Interested residents should contact Housing@WaterlooRAGBRAI.com or go online to complete the signup form at www.WaterlooRAGBRAI.com under the Overnight Accommodations tab. They can also contact Lonnie Elmore, Waterloo RAGBRAI Housing Chair at 233-8350 with questions or to have a signup form mailed to them.
