Eastern Iowa Airport looking at low-fare airlines

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Tim Bradshaw, the new Cedar Rapids airport director, announced he will be talking with local business leaders about attracting low-fare carriers to Eastern Iowa Airport in order to benefit business travelers.

Bradshaw said business travelers are some of the biggest users of the airport and that they end up paying the highest air fares because they are not able to book flights in advance.

According to Bradshaw, many of the low-fare carriers want a revenue guarantee or subsidy before they work with an airport.  He says there is a risk of the airlines asking for higher rates or leaving if they are not making enough money.

The Cedar Rapids Airport Commission has a top 10 list of destinations and Bradshaw said he will work to convince airlines to offer service to those communities.
