Grants awarded to enhance local artistic, cultural and historical resources

WATERLOO (KWWL) – More than $250,000 in grants that support jobs and enhance artistic, cultural and historical resources in Iowa were announced Tuesday.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs awarded 17 Iowa Community Cultural Grants totaling $251,600 to organizations in 12 Iowa communities.

The ICCG program supports projects and employment for museum exhibits, historic restoration and archaeology, folklife and other arts festivals, public art, ethnic heritage and performing arts events and companies. 

The following eastern Iowa projects were awarded ICCG funding this spring:

Recipient: City of Dubuque

Grant Amount: $13,021

Description: The City of Dubuque will use ICCG funding to hire a part-time arts and cultural affairs coordinator who will facilitate two grant programs, an annual temporary public art program, and serve as liaison with the Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission, plus other leadership roles.

Recipient: Dubuque Art Center

Grant Amount: $21,250

Description: Dubuque Art Center will use ICCG funding to hire a part-time program director and art instructors for the Creating Community Free Art Education programs.

Recipient: 1st Fridays Art Walk of Fairfield

Grant Amount: $21,250

Description: 1st Fridays Art Walk of Fairfield will use ICCG funding to hire an event and marketing outreach coordinator for 1st Fridays Art Walk event.

Recipient: Way Off Broadway in Fairfield

Grant Amount: $12,725

Description: The Way Off Broadway Musical theatre Company will use ICCG funding to hire staff for the "Iowa Loves Theatre" campaign to build its audience.

Recipient: Humanities Iowa, Iowa City

Grant Amount: $7,650

Description: Humanities Iowa will use ICCG funding to support a speakers bureau that will make presentations throughout Iowa.

Recipient: Maquoketa Art Experience

Grant Amount: $21,250

Description: The Maquoketa Art Experience will use ICCG funding to expand the activities coordinator position to full time.

Recipient: Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation/Development, Postville

Grant Amount: $21,250

Description: Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation/Development will use ICCG funding to hire eight part-time employees to do GPS on historic, cultural and art sites, and three part-time employees to use GPS points to create GIS maps to build the capacity of the Iowa byways.

Recipient: Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation/Development, Postville

Grant Amount: $10,200

Description: Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation/Development will hire a part-time assistant for website updating and promotion of Northeast Iowa's cultural, historic and art venues.

Recipient: Bosnian Cultural Foundation, Waterloo

Grant Amount: $20,400

Description: The Bosnian Cultural Foundation will use ICCG funding to hire staff to document performances, preparations and the personal meaning of the KUD Kolo folkdance ensemble's trip to Bosnia.
