Benton County Sheriff warns of possible scam

Posted:

VINTON (KWWL) -- Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth is warning residents of a possible scam going on in the area.

Forsyth says his office has received complaints of an individual or organization that is calling local businesses for donations to advertise on maps of Benton County.

According to Forsyth, the caller says he is representing the Benton County Sheriff's Office and asks for personal history information to confirm the call.

Sheriff Forsyth says his office does not promote the solicitation of any advertising.

He reminds everyone that personal information should never be given out over the phone, especially birth dates, social security numbers, and credit card information.

He adds that you should always ask for a call back number and return a call to them if they are a legitimate organization before giving out any information.
