SIOUX CITY (KWWL) -- More than a dozen people died when a three story structure collapsed in Sioux City in 1918.  The Ruff Building, at the corner of Fourth and Douglas St, fell during the afternoon hours of June 29th that year.  Death toll was originally estimated between 10 and 20, with many more injuries.

The building was being remodeled at the time and the collapse was believed to have been due to removal of old supports.  The building was one of the oldest in the city, being first constructed nearly 50 years prior to the accident.

The financial loss was estimated at $100,000.
