Give blood, get pie

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Giving blood is not just easy as pie, you can get pie for donating.

Starting Wednesday, June 30th through Monday, July 5th, anyone donating blood at a participating Red Cross Blood Center will get a free fruit pie.

"Donating blood is one of the simplest things you can do to help save a patient's life," said Greg Novinska, CEO of the local Red Cross Blood Services region. "Each time you donate, there could be a whole community of people thankful for another birthday you have given to their loved one."

The Waterloo Blood Donation Center is located at 2530 University Avenue and will be open the following days and hours:

- Wednesday, June 30 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, July 1 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Friday, July 2 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Saturday, July 3 from 8 a.m. to noon

To donate blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (448-3543) or visit to make an appointment or for more information.
