Cedar Rapids traffic cams catching police too

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The cameras used in Cedar Rapids to catch red light runners and speeders seems to be catching police officers too.

Greg Graham, Cedar Rapids Police Chief, says 26 of his patrol cars have been caught for possible violations.

He says five were not violations because officers were responding to calls, while six officers have been given letters of discipline because they weren't using lights and sirens while responding to calls.

Graham adds that 15 other cases are under review and tickets will be issued if the officers are found to be breaking the law.

It's not just Cedar Rapids officers getting caught on camera though.

Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty has been forwarded seven possible violations by his department and Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner has also been handed seven possible violations by his deputies.

Other Cedar Rapids vehicles have been caught, including city buses and a garbage truck.
