WATERLOO (KWWL)

A City of Waterloo proposal to increase downtown Waterloo parking rates for the first time in years will have to wait until next month.

The proposal unanimously passed its first reading Monday night, but didn't have the votes necessary to suspend the rules for 2nd and 3rd reading approval.

If passed, hourly ramp fees would increase from 35-cents to One dollar for the first hour and to 50-cents an hour after that.

Parking meter rates would jump 30 cents—from 20 to 50-cents an hour for two and four hour meters; and 15 cents—from 10-to 25-cents an hour for the 10 hour meters.

At-large Councilman, Bob Greenwood, was absent from Monday night's meeting, and Councilman Steve Schmitt was the only council member to vote no on suspending the rules.

The next Waterloo City Council meeting is set for July 12.
