Cedar Rapids soldier remembered

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)--- Family and friends of a fallen soldier from Cedar Rapids gathered Sunday to pay their respects.

28-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Benjamin Chadwick died on June 17, while serving at Fort Hood, Tex.  Family and friends gathered at Teahan Funeral Home for a vigil and visitation time with the soldier's family Sunday afternoon.  The honor guard stood post outside the service bearing flags in the soldier's memory.  Chadwick had three children with his wife Kristall, who is currently expecting a fourth child.

Sgt. Chadwick had been in the military for five years as a fire support specialist, and arrived at Fort Hood in January.  We're told he loved music, video games, reading, deer hunting, and watching Iowa thunderstorms.

The Army isn't commenting in the soldier's death, only saying that the circumstances surrounding it are under investigation.  Sgt. Chadwick's funeral is set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Carl Darnell Hospital, Attn: The Fisher House, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850-5168.
