Families line Main Street for Sturgis Falls parade

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- "Simply the Best" is the theme for the 35th Annual Sturgis Falls celebration. This year's march down Main Street lived up to the name.

The kids lining the streets for Saturday's parade said their favorite part is the candy. Unfortunately, the groups were not allowed to throw candy in this parade. But that didn't put a damper on the fun.

Families enjoyed music, waved at a few ladies in tiaras, and of course, there were some pretty cool floats. One that caught our eye was from Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 227. They had an actual, albeit small, plane on their float. Plus, it was decked out in a Snoopy theme.

"We've had a lot of people stop by, they enjoy the float," said organizer John Peacock. "This plane is an ACON Red, here in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, built 30 years ago, with different wings on it!"

The winning float at the Sturgis Falls parade takes home a trophy, a $500 cash prize, and bragging rights.  Last year Sacred Heart Parish won the top honor -- the "Grand Marshall's Trophy."
