Matter of Faith: Immanuel Lutheran School waives tuition

by Danielle Wagner

WATERLOO (KWWL) Immanuel Lutheran School on Franklin Street in Waterloo is waiving its tuition fees for new students for the 2010-2011 school year.

"We don't want to call it free tuition, but we're going to waive the tuition for that year. You do not have tuition, but you do still have the registration fees and any other fees that come up such as athletic fees. We do have lunch fees, but we also honor the reduced and free lunch program," said Lisa Kruse with Immanuel Lutheran School.

The Lutheran school is open to any child, no matter his or her religion. Kruse said you don't have to open enroll to attend, but you do need to register.

She hopes the waived tuition gives people an incentive to at least consider attending the school.

"If they've been thinking about coming to a Lutheran school or Christian environment, but just haven't done it yet, this might be that incentive to come over and see what we have to offer and we believe of course we have a lot to offer a student," said Kruse.

Last year 150 students attended ILS.

"We do expect a lot from our students, academically as well as spiritually. We want to raise children in the best manner. So we teach manners and respect of others and respect of the Lord and we also want to give them a really good educational experience," said Kruse.

The waived tuition saves you $2600.

Kruse said after next school year, scholarship programs are available to help cover the cost. She said the school works hard so every student can attend.

You can meet teachers and tour classrooms on Tuesday, July 27th. There's an open house from 6 to 7 p.m.
