Vander Plaats may continue race for state capitol

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Republican primary election may not be the end of the line for Republican Bob Vander Plaats race for the state capitol.

Vander Plaats was the runner up in Iowa's gubernatorial race.  Former Governor Terry Branstad beat the Sioux City businessman out on June 8th.

This week, Branstad named Senator Kim Reynolds as his running mate.  But a grassroots party claims they're working to get Vander Plaats the nomination at this weekend's GOP state convention.

Vander Plaats said he hasn't ruled out the possibility of running on a third-party ticket.  He said he'll make a decision after speaking with Branstad.
