Backpack project to help Waterloo homeless

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- Volunteers at the Hospitality House in Waterloo are not only working on making people feel at home, but they are also working on a new project they can take with them.

"From visiting with the homeless people, they said one of the very concrete real things that we could do is provide this backpack with some essential things." said Dave Cushing, Hospitality House volunteer.

These essential things include some items that a lot of people take for granted.

"They were in need of blankets, a pillow, utilities such as silverware, dry socks, toilet paper, and a rain poncho, and bug spray." said Chris Harms, Hospitality House Volunteer.

The backpacks cost $80 each and volunteers are asking for a cash donation.

"That way we are able to get the things that we really feel they will need to put in them and then we would hand them out as we see fit." said Harms.

The hospitality house is hoping to get enough money to get 20 backpacks.
