GLENWOOD, Iowa (AP) -- A new director has been appointed to the state-run, 300-resident Glenwood Resource Center for the mentally disabled in southwestern Iowa.
Iowa Department of Human Services Director Charles Krogmeier on Thursday announced the appointment of Zvia McCormick. McCormick has worked since 1983 at the Tacachale Developmental Disability Center in Gainesville, Fla., most recently as division director for residential services. McCormick takes the position July 12.
The center was under federal supervision since 12 deaths at the facility in 2008. It's also faced more than $50,000 in fines for inadequate resident care. In April the center's superintendent left after less than six months on the job.
Last week the facility marked reaching "substantial compliance" with federal care standards.
