Early spring takes toll on neighboring state's produce

MADISON, Wisconsin (KWWL) -- Wisconsin's early spring has been hard on the state's crop of tart cherries. Meteorologists predict the state will produce 4.3 million pounds this year - a 60 percent decrease from last year's successful harvest. Scientists say the warm spring caused tart-cherry trees to bloom earlier in April, which left them vulnerable to frost. The cold also added to poor pollination.
