DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- On Tuesday, Iowa took a big step into the future with a new Web site for tracking and analyzing broadband Internet access.

A comprehensive new Web site allows people to check broadband Internet speeds and availability all across the state.

According to the site - connectiowa.org - 95 percent of all Iowa households have some sort of access to broadband.

Still, there are several pockets throughout the state without any broadband access.

Mary Smith in Graf, with one such pocket, said she doesn't mind.

"Doesn't bother me at all," she said. "I'm happy without it."

Her neighbors just up the street, however, said they wish their access was a little easier.

"I have dial-up, and I also toggle my Blackberry to my laptop," Graf resident Ronda Schueller said. "I really want broadband. I want faster Internet service."

Now, she and others without broadband can voice their concerns.

Connect Iowa, the nonprofit group commissioned by the Iowa Utilities Board, says on its site it wants to hear from the public, since input allows it to make the interactive broadband maps as accurate as possible.

There a map to see who in Iowa has cable coverage, mobile coverage, DSL coverage, fiber coverage and more.

It's a tool people with broadband can use to find the best and fastest option available.

The site says as broadband networks expand and more data become available, Connect Iowa will continue updating the maps.
