Recount turns up additional vote, but no change in Butler County election

ALLISON (KWWL) -- A recount of the Butler County Primary Election turned up one more ballot in the race for Republican Party District 2, but it had no effect on the outcome.

The race was down to one vote between Incumbent John Zimmerman and Tom Heidenwirth.  Heidenwirth was leading 399-398 after the canvass.

Monday's recount found Heidenwirth with 400 votes, and Zimmerman with 398.

Butler County Auditor Holly Fokkena says the additional ballot was likely too lightly marked to be read correctly by the optical system.  The recount took about two and a half hours Monday.  The results will be presented to the county board of supervisors Tuesday.

It's uncertain who the winner will take on in November. No Democrats ran for county office in the primary election.
