Iowa Speedway groundbreaking in 2005

NEWTON (KWWL) -- June 21, 2005 was a big day for Newton and racing as groundbreaking was held for the $70 million Nascar-style Iowa Speedway.

Veteran driver Rusty Wallace designed the speedway and was at the groundbreaking.  The Iowa Speedway, with a seven-eighths-mile oval track, was built just south of Interstate 80.

Sunday was the fourth running of the Iowa Corn 250 Indy Race.
