2 Cedar Rapids men charged with ATV thefts

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) -- Cedar Rapids police say they have arrested two local men accused of taking all-terrain vehicles from a dealer's lot.

Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says an officer spotted one ATV on the Cedar Valley Trail shortly before midnight Wednesday night. The officer pulled onto the trail to block the four-wheeler, whose operator ran it into the car and a nearby fence before continuing south.

In their follow-up investigation, officers found that two ATVs had been stolen from the lot at McGrath Powersports.

Eventually, early Thursday morning, they arrested 40-year-old Jason Sliter and 42-year-old Michael Hoover. Both were charged with first-degree theft, and Sliter was charged with interference with official acts for allegedly striking the police car.
