Corn growers selecting representative for District 3

Posted:

JOHNSTON (KWWL) -- On July 13, corn growers in Crop Reporting District 3 will choose their county extension offices for a representative on the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB).

This year's two candidates are running to represent District 3.  Don Elsbernd, from Allamakee County, has been farming for 28 years.  He raises no-till corn and soybeans.  Mark Mueller from Bremer County raises corn, soybeans and tofu soybeans.  He has been farming for 15 years.

The winner will represent corn growers from Allamakee, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Howard, Fayette, and Winneshiek Counties.  He will serve three years on the Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

Anyone who has produced and marketed 250 bushels of corn or more in Iowa in the previous year can vote in the election.  If you're unable to get to an extension office on voting day, you can submit an absentee ballot.  Those are available through June 28.  They must be postmarked by July 13.

For more information on the ICPB or director elections, please contact the ICPB office at (515) 225-9242 or by mail at 5505 NW 88th Street #100, Johnston, IA 50131.

A gloomy and rainy afternoon didn't stop people from making it out early to the campgrounds Friday. By the afternoon, Scales Pointe Campground and Marina in North Liberty, was full of RVs, tents, and houseboats ready to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. "We don't worry about the weather. We just put a tent up, put a poncho on, and drink in the rain," Mike Kirk said. Kirk said he's been camping at the same spot for five years now and that it's the best place to be. ...More >>
