Chickasaw County warns of door-to-door scammers

CHICKASAW COUNTY (KWWL) -- The Chickasaw County Sheriff has taken reports of people going door-to-door selling items to citizens.

Officials say a rural Fredericksburg man reports a person driving a dark colored panel van attempting to sell a household / industrial ‘cleaner' from the van. The person was identified as a white male, tall and slender with short, blonde in color hair. The possible issuing state of the license plate may be West Virginia.

The Sheriff wishes to remind citizens if a product is ‘too good to be true, it probably is". Do not be pressured into purchasing anything you don't want. Remember, if a person does not leave your property when asked to do so, it may be considered criminal trespass.

It is not illegal for persons to solicit buyers door-to-door. However, they must follow specific Iowa laws and any local regulations pertaining to the Iowa Door to Door Sales Act, Code of Iowa Chapter 555A or any local city regulations regarding registration with that government entity, posting bonds, etc.

The Iowa Door to Door Sales Act specifies the seller must provide a receipt or contract to the buyer which specifies Date of Transactions, Name of Seller, Address of Seller and Notice of Cancellation (that they buyer may cancel within 3 days).
