Wilton looks to improve tornado sirens

WILTON, Iowa (KWWL) -- City leaders are concerned they can't seem to hear tornado sirens in the eastern Iowa city of Wilton.

At the City Council meeting Monday several leaders considered the problem during a threat of a possible tornado. Councilman Steve Owens says he couldn't hear the siren at his house in the north part of the city.

Another council member said he couldn't hear the siren at his house in southern Wilton. The council decided to discuss tornado sirens at its June 28 meeting.

Wilton Mayor Ira Bowman says tornado sirens are meant to be heard outside and may not be audible from inside buildings.

Bowman says there has been talk of providing people with weather radios that have alarms.
