Emergency landing at Iowa airport

SIOUX CITY (KWWL) -- Authorities say no one was injured when a small plane with three people on board made a belly landing at the Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City.

Officials say the twin-engine Piper Cheyenne, with a pilot and two passengers, made an emergency landing at 8 a.m. Tuesday after a problem with its landing gear.

Airport Operations Manager John Backer says Wednesday that the plane was flying from Omaha to northwest Iowa when an indicator warned of a problem.

Backer says the pilot contacted the Sioux City airport and did an "excellent" job of landing on the runway. He says there were sparks and smoke but no fire.

Backer did not have the names of the pilot and passengers.
