Computer glitch hits unemployment recipients

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A statewide computer glitch over the weekend created an extremely busy Monday for employees of Iowa Workforce Development.

According to Kerry Koonce, a computer glitch caused some filing their weekly unemployment report to get a message that they had to go into the office on Monday.

She says that the problem has been fixed and people can file as normal.

Aaron Sauerbrai, Regional Director for Workforce Development, says the glitch only impacted those on extended unemployment benefits.

He says those people can file Monday or Tuesday and should receive their benefits without delay.  He adds that those impacted are also welcome to go to their local office to file.

He adds that while Monday's are normally a busy day, the weekend glitch probably made it even busier.
