Rain raises flood threat

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- More rain is falling in Iowa, raising the threat of flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers and creeks in central and southern Iowa, including the Des Moines area. A flash flood watch is in effect for central and eastern Iowa.

In Des Moines, city officials expect a fifth consecutive day of rain will keep a major downtown road, George Flagg Parkway, which runs along the Raccoon River, closed for several days.

Fleur Drive, which also crosses the Raccoon River and connects downtown to the city's airport, was open Monday morning, but could close by evening.

Storms that began last Thursday dropped between 2 and 6 inches of rain through late Sunday in central Iowa. An additional 1 to 3 inches was expected by Monday.
