Raccoons causing ruckus in Mason City

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Residents in Mason City are complaining about ruckus-causing raccoons.

Mason City councilmember Janet Solberg says she's receiving calls about raccoons. Mason City Animal Control has been picking up raccoons caught in cage traps. They're usually released at Lime Creek Nature Center.

Experts say the best way to keep a raccoon from coming near homes is to eliminate any food sources.

Ron Andrews is an animal specialist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Andrews says for many years Iowa has seen a "bumper crop" of raccoons. He says they're very adaptable to living in different areas.
