Police arrest man that was shot inside Waterloo home

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A man shot last week in Waterloo has been arrested for Assault Domestic Abuse.

Police say Perry Lee Powell Jr. was shot on June 2nd inside 806 Easton Avenue.

According to court records, Powell was shot by Nakima Owens, 31, after he became upset over a text message that she received.

The complaint goes on to say that Powell began knocking things over inside the house and Owens feared for her life because she had been assaulted in the past.

It goes on to say that Owens got a handgun and told Powell to leave.  He refused, tried to slap Owens and then started coming after her.

Police say that is when Owens shot Powell, hitting him in the abdomen.

The woman who shot him, 31-year-old Nakima Owens, hasn't been charged. She was questioned by police following the June 2 shooting and allowed to leave, police said.

Powell was taken to Covenant Medical Center for treatment.

Owens told police Powell has slapped her and attempted to strangle her in the past.
