Cedar Rapids police celebrate new beginning

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Two years after the 2008's historic floods the Cedar Rapids Police Department is celebrating a new beginning

Seven feet of water poured through the lower level of the building in June of 2008, displacing the department for eight days

Now two years later, most of that lower level was rebuilt and mechanical and electrical systems were relocated a floor higher

"We've been very fortunate because we have been able to recreate everything that we have and really do a better job than it was the first time around," said Sgt. Cristy Hamblin with Cedar Rapids police department.

The cost of the FEMA funded project was just short of two million dollars.
