DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- School's out for good for some Dubuque teenagers.

Central Alternative High School opened its doors to students for the last time Wednesday.

Students celebrated with their annual picnic and award ceremony.

Several past graduates showed up for the last goodbye.

The principal said although the building is closing, the students and staff have other plans in place.

"Next year, the program will be at the Forum," Central Alternative High School principal Claudette Bees said. "This is something that came to me, I had no idea that the program started in the district headquarters, and, now, we're full circle - back in the district headquarters."

Some staff members will remain with the program at the Forum. Others, including Bees, will go back to work at schools throughout the district.

One woman at the final picnic told KWWL she may be planning a petition drive to try and keep Central open.
