Iowa's Democratic Party chairman to resign

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Michael Kiernan is resigning as chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party.

The party's executive director, Norm Sterzenbach, told The Des Moines Register on Wednesday that Kiernan is leaving because of personal reasons.

The Democratic State Central Committee will hold a special meeting Thursday night to vote on a new chairman. Kiernan's resignation will become official at that meeting.

The 35-year-old Kiernan has worked as a partner in a business that renovates old homes in Des Moines.
