Middle school student arrested for allegedly pushing teacher

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids Police say a 12-year old from Taft Middle School was arrested Tuesday for allegedly pushing a 66-year old teacher.

They say the incident began when Eric Nduwayesu was singing a rap song in class that talked about guns and killing.

According to the police report, Nduwayesu then went into the hall and as he was heading toward his locker, he was pointing his finger at other students.

It goes on to say that his teacher, Selma Brigham, told the boy that he couldn't go to his locker and then blocked the locker when he failed to listen.

Brigham told police that she was afraid he was going to his locker to get a weapon.

The report says that Nduwayesu then told Brigham to move and then pushed her.

He was sent to the office and then later arrested.  He is charged with simple assault.

According to Sergeant Cristy Hamblin, Nduwayesu is currently being held in the Linn County Detention Center.
