UNI's Warren Signs Long Term Deal

The University of Northern Iowa has given head women's basketball coach Tanya Warren a new six-year contract, making her the coach of the Panthers through 2016, director of athletics Troy Dannen announced Tuesday.

"Our program continues to advance under Tanya's leadership," Dannen said. "That progress was very evident when we qualified for our first NCAA tournament this past season. Tanya brings exceptional leadership to the women in our program. I look forward to a successful future with Tanya at the helm of UNI women's basketball."

"I am humbled, honored and extremely appreciative of Troy, Jean (Berger) and our administration for entrusting me to lead this program over the next several years," Warren said. "I look forward to working closely with my staff and players as we strive daily to continue to build this program for all to be proud of."

Warren led the Panthers to their first ever Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title in 2009-10, advancing the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Her student-athletes have earned five all-conference accolades. She also coached the 2008 Freshman of the Year in Jacqui Kalin and the 2009 Newcomer of the Year in Kim Wypiszynski. Her 2007-08 and 2008-09 teams finished sixth in the nation in team grade point average.
