Waterloo Native Plays Big Role in UFC 114 Win

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Waterloo native Mike Van Arsdale is no stranger to big time competition.

A state wrestling champion at Waterloo West, Van Arsdale won an NCAA title at Iowa State in 1988.

After coming to within a heartbeat of being on the United States Olympic team-- Mike found the sport of mixed martial arts... And following several years as a competitor-- Van Arsdale has discovered he's a pretty good coach.

Van Arsdale served as the head coach for former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans in his highly recognized grudge match against Quentin "Rampage" Jackson at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas for UFC 114. Van Arsdale helped coach Evans to an upset victory over Jackson.
