North English platted in 1884

NORTH ENGLISH (KWWL) -- The city that would eventually come to be known as North English was platted June 6, 1884.

The city has had three names in its history.  Starting originally with the name "Soaptown," it was soon changed to Nevada in 1855.  Confusion with the Story County town bearing the same name resulted in the third name of North English in 1884.

The name is in connection to the proximity to the north branch of the English River. The town was incorporated in 1892.
