Rumble strips set for certain Iowa rural roads

AMES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation wants to decrease the number of centerline crossover crashes on highways in rural areas.

So department officials say they will install centerline rumble strips on parts of selected two-lane highways.

The grooves will be 18-inches wide and are to be installed into the center of certain roads to alert drivers when their vehicles are about to enter the other lane.

Department officials say test rumble strips have already been installed on U.S. 34 in Union County, U.S. 52 in Dubuque County and U.S. 61 in Des Moines County.
