New plan for asthmatics in Iowa released

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Public Health has released its new Iowa Asthma plan to the public.

The Iowa Asthma Plan is updated and re-released every five years.  The idea of the plan is to pinpoint asthma triggers and figure out ways to either reduce or eliminate them.  The plan is also used to educate the 200,000 Iowans with asthma about what they can do to help keep the triggers low.

The new plan includes goals for a statewide asthma surveillance system, education and plans to decrease asthma triggers such as tobacco smoke and the creation of a curriculum to educate nurses, students and teachers about asthma.
