Riders test out RAGBRAI route

Posted:

SIOUX CITY (KWWL, KTIV)-- We're still a good month away from the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, but some cyclists are testing out their wheels a bit early.

Riders started in Sioux City Sunday, taking the same route to storm lake they will follow in July.

They do this to check the course for any obstructions or unsafe areas.

"Mostly it's just for safety. Looking out for safety hazards like pot holes and whatever you might find in the roads like railroad crossings and things like that," said RAGBRAI volunteer Linda Brinkerhoff.

Some inspection riders are doing the entire seven-day trek across Iowa, where they'll finish checking the course in Dubuque on Saturday.
