Teenagers paint a rural church

Posted:

CLARKSVILLE (KWWL) –One Eastern Iowa teenager organized an effort to help her church this weekend.

About 20 National Honor Society students from Waverly-Shell Rock Hig School spent several hours of their weekend painting this church.

Unity Presbyterian Church had graffiti sprayed on it earlier this spring.

The person or people responsible were never found.

Abbey Tjebkes was bothered by the event.

"The church just painted the graffiti part-- so it didn't look that good ….I wanted to just paint everything," Tjebkes said. "Plus I love this church. I just wanted to give something back to them."

Tjebkes talked to her National Honor Society advisor and suggested the group paint the church.
