Regals defend 1A soccer title with 3-2 win

DES MOINES (KWWL)--  Iowa City Regina played its best soccer Saturday, when it needed it the most, outlasting Holy Trinity Catholic 3-2 in double overtime, and successfully defended its state title.

Down two goals at the half to Holy Trinity Catholic, the Regals stormed back.  Matt Miller scored ten minutes in and Zach Pechous got the equalizer with three minutes left in regulation.

The score remained 2-2 until double overtime, until Ryan Lynch scored the winner off a corner kick.

"I thought we didn't play as well as we can in the first half," said Regal head coach Rick Larew.  "We made a lot of mistakes, I said if we just continue to play the game we can, let's just have confidence in ourselves and teammates and the best way to do that is to talk and encourage your teammates and who knows what will happen next."
