Local duo hopes to land show on Oprah Winfrey Network

WATERLOO (KWWL) Two young men are trying to follow their dreams, but they need your help. Travis Lloyd and Dante' Marcellous want a show on the new Oprah Winfrey Network.

The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) debuts in 2011 and is searching for shows.

Marcellous and Lloyd need you to vote for their show. The two became business partners about three years ago. They travel the country speaking to youth. Now, they want to reach even more people through a television show.

"We've done a lot with at-risk youth, foster populations and we want to further that, reach a lot more people in the realm of helping them overcome their past and learn how to deal with it, come to peace with it and then move on to have a successful future," said Travis Lloyd.

Lloyd is from Des Moines and Marcellous is from Waterloo. They use their own experiences to motive and inspire. Lloyd went into the foster care system at age nine. Marcellous says many black males fall into a life of crime in Waterloo.

They've actually tried for a couple years to get on Oprah's talk show, and when this opportunity came along, they just couldn't pass it up.

"When I started to research on Oprah she came out of foster care, she came out of being abused and all of those types of things so we just really connected with her personal story and some of the things she's doing in her professional life. Everybody knows she's all about living your best life. So Travis and I altered that tag word, we want you to be the best you," said Dante' Marcellous.

You can watch their entire video and vote by going to www.danteandtravis.com. Voting ends July 3.
