Independence teen run over as school lets out for summer

INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -- A student from Independence is in serious condition after being run over by a vehicle as school let out for the summer Tuesday afternoon.

Independence Police say they responded to the high school parking lot shortly after 1:00 p.m.  That's just after school let out for the day.  Police say they found a 15-year-old suffering from injuries from being run over by a vehicle.

The teen was taken by ambulance to the Buchanan County Health Center and later airlifted to Iowa City.  Police say the teen is in serious condition and they are continuing to investigate.
