Former Hawkeye Assistant Barry Alvarez Named to the College Football Hall of Fame

When Barry Alvarez left the state championship Mason City high school football program in 1979 to help Hayden Fry rebuild Iowa-- do you think he believe it would lead to the College Football Hall of Fame?

The move to Iowa turned out to be the first big step in a Hall-of-Fame career. Today Alvarez, the late Pat Tillman and Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard headline the 2010 class

 

Alvarez was an assistant for six years at Iowa along with Kirk Ferentz in the early eighties-- gained most of his notoriety as head football coach at Wisconsin.

 

 

Alvarez is the Badgers' all-time winningest coach a place where he is now the athletic director--- and won three rose bowls .
