Colin Powell to dedicate Cedar Rapids memorial

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- General Colin Powell will help dedicate a new Korean War Veterans memorial in Veteran Memorial Park on June 1.

Powell will join the Cedar Rapids Veterans Memorial Commission, PMX Industries of Cedar Rapids and the Korean War Veterans Association in the unveiling and dedication ceremony.  Powell will also be speaking at the ceremony along with Si Geun Kim, president of PMX Industries of Cedar Rapids and Sid Morris, president of the Iowa Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association.

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The new memorial includes 507 names of U.S. military members who died or were declared missing in action during the Korean War.  The memorial stands six feet high and is made of black stone.
